Reasons To Buy A Used BMW

When it comes to reading customers, in the end, there are two kinds of car purchasers. Ones who are looking to buy new cars, and ones that prefer used cars. Depending on the type of buyer, each one has their own set of goals. For those who are looking to buy used, they are looking for a way to spend less money.

From families on strict budgets to new drivers looking to slip into their first car, buying a used car is actually a smart decision for those types of people. Below are a few reasons that car dealerships can use into persuading customers to buy used.

Minimized/Less Depreciation

Every car dealer knows that as soon as a new car is bought and drives off the lot, about 20% of it’s value is knocked off it. This is then followed by 10% depreciation over the first year in use. For new car owners, if they purchase a $30,000 vehicle, by the end of the first year the book value of it will have dropped by nearly a third. This also makes trade-ins from initially new cars not so worthwhile since the value dropped significantly.

That being said, you skip over that hit when you go used. For sure the value is cheaper upon trade in, but you are also buying it cheaper as well. In theory if you went to re-sell the vehicle your overall loss in equity will be reduced to practically nothing. You can use these selling points to better prepare customers and persuade them to buying used cars.

Lower Fees

As you know, any new car has many fees applied to them. From sales fees, registration fees, not to mention taxes all based on the higher price can rack up a lot of money on the car. You can persuade customers that going for an older model can be worthwhile as they can avoid some of those fees. Not to mention when fees do apply they are based off of a significantly lower amount.

Bring this up to people on tighter budgets and you can certainly make a sale from them.

Condition

Obviously cars have come a long way and most can these days can go on for several years. The average consumer isn’t aware of this and may be under the impression that used cars are beat up and not as pristine as newer models. Although the vehicle is indeed used, the mileage of the vehicle will vary and in a lot of cases it’s in great condition.

Furthermore, many manufacturers as well as car dealerships offer the same quality of warranties as the newer models. Because of this, it’s easy to compare new cars with used models as being almost the same.

Choice

Perhaps due to the stigma or perhaps people favoring new models so often, it’s not out of the ordinary for dealerships to have plenty of quality used cars on the lot. One good persuasion point you can use for advertising or persuading customers is the fact there is many to choose from. Furthermore you can tell the customer they’re not restricted to models that have been out for the past two years. With used cars the years can vary and you may have access to models, designs, and trims that are no longer being made.
